Studebaker Timeline

1852  Henry & Clement Studebaker set up a blacksmith shop in South Bend.

1853  John M. Studebaker arrives in Hangtown (now Placerville, California).

1858  John M. Studebaker returns to South Bend.

1868  Studebaker Brothers Manufacturing Company incorporated.

1902  Studebaker sells their first electric cars.

1904  Studebaker sells their first gasoline - powered cars.

1911  Studebaker Brothers joins with Everitt - Metzker - Flanders Company to form the Studebaker Corporation.

1912  Studebaker stops selling electric cars.

1928  Studebaker purchases Pierce Arrow.

1950  Studebaker introduces the "Bullet Nose."

1954  Packard purchases Studebaker.

1956  The Golden Hawk (1956-58) introduced.

1957  The Silver Hawk (1957-59) introduced.

1958  Studebaker formally merges with the Packard Corporation.

1959  The Lark (1959-66) introduced.

1962  The Avanti (1963-64)  and Gran Turismo (GT) Hawk (1962-64) introduced.

1962  The Studebaker Drivers Club (SDC) formed.

1963  South Bend automotive operations closed in December.

1966  Last Studebaker automobile produced in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

1968  Sequoia Chapter Studebaker Drivers Club established.

1985  Studebaker National Museum, Inc., formed.
